Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and Wolfram Language, is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join its Accounting department. The Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for leading Accounting staff and processes, including tax, payroll and financial systems.
Responsibilities
- Providing oversight and owning development/implementation of internal controls over all tax matters, including:
- Preparation of federal, state and VAT returns
- Sales tax compliance
- Emerging international tax reporting requirements
- Researching tax matters and monitoring tax legislation
- Implementing processes and procedures for compliance
- Providing oversight for payroll processing, including related federal and state tax filings
- Monitoring 401k plan activities including bi-weekly funding, forfeiture account monitoring, uncashed checks, loan changes and related compliance activities
- Providing oversight for financial systems and system-generated financial reports
- Completing necessary maintenance of finance recordkeeping systems
- Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures identifying, recommending and implementing updates as needed
- Recruiting and hiring Accounting staff and conducting performance evaluations
- Implementing training for new hires and identifying training opportunities for current staff
- Handling discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy
- Serving as a helpful resource to employees on general accounting matters
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or finance is required
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of federal and state corporate income tax preparation
- Certified Public Accountant designation is highly preferred
- Efficiency in tax research
- Understanding of depreciation and revenue recognition rules
- Exposure to sales and VAT taxes
- Excellent management and supervisory skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High degree of initiative and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Mastery of accounting software
- Ability to maintain confidentialit
- Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong numerical aptitude, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
